Schenectady County, New York, is a name in the Mohawk language meaning “on the other side of the pine lands.” The county has a population of 158,061 (as of the 2020 census), and the county seat is Schenectady. It is located west of the confluence of the Mohawk and Hudson Rivers and includes land on the north and south sides of the Mohawk River.
A 15-member legislature governs the county, and the county manager is hired to oversee daily government operations. The county comprises small towns and hamlets, and Schenectady is the only large city. Basketball Coach Pat Riley was born and raised in Schenectady, and the athletic wing of the high school was named after him (after he donated a great deal of money for its creation.) Even more exciting, Schenectady County is the home of Thomas Edison, who lit up our world.

The Drug Court focuses on treatment and recovery of those who are addicted to illegal drugs and alcohol, rather than using incarceration as punishment. The participants of the Dug Court result in no or low level criminal convictions rather than felonies. The aim is to address the issues or illness that contribute to criminal behavior and provide aid and skills for these individuals.
